Judy the Beauty

I was pleased to read this morning that plans call for Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) winner Judy the Beauty to race again in 2015. For some reason I had it in my head that she was scheduled to be sold at either Fasig-Tipton yesterday or at the Keeneland November sale. Sometimes you are pleased to learn that you were wrong, and this is one of those occasions.

Her victory in the Filly and Mare Sprint pleased me the most of all the Breeders’ Cup results. This is largely because she showed up in one of my posts earlier this year as having sold for only $20,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale (despite being in the first session of a sale that averaged $64,000+).

By Ghostazpper out of a stakes-winning Holy Bull mare, she certainly had enough pedigree to have sold for more than $20,000. Perhaps one of the reasons why she sold so cheaply was because she was “not rated” by TrueNicks (although in hindsight she is now an A nick). Horses that were “not rated” sold for significantly less at that sale than all other categories.

Winner also of the Madison Stakes (G1) earlier this year at Keeneland, Judy the Beauty is a prohibitive choice for an Eclipse Award as champion female sprinter. She now has a record of 18-9-7-1 for earnings of $1,662,146. Here is wishing her the best of luck in 2015!!!!!

If she should ever go through the sales ring again, you can bet that she will bring a lot more than $20,000.

great mare. I love reading about the Nicks and how people overpay for them. I dont really believe in them, its like the light up board in roulette. One of my foals coming in feb is A++ but you need to go back 2 sires and make a left turn to get to the nick.

Yes, it’s all very amusing. Incidentally, I discovered after yesterday’s post that Judy the Beauty was indeed originally consigned to the Fasig-Tipton sale on Monday but then was withdrawn when they decided to race her again next year.
