If you have followed this blog from the beginning, you know that I usually post something about the Storm Cat male line in the Kentucky Derby shortly after the race each year. Here is how his male line fared in yesterday’s race.
Three of the 20 starters in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby hailed from the Storm Cat male line. Destin finished sixth at 18-1. Brody’s Cause finished seven at 24-1. Mor Spirit finished tenth at 12-1.
Both Destin and Brody’s Cause are by Giant’s Causeway, by Storm Cat. Mor Spirit is by Eskendereya, by Giant’s Causeway.
The overall record for the Storm Cat male line in the Kentucky Derby now stands at 49 starts, ZERO wins, four seconds, and two thirds. Needless to say, that is NOT a particularly good record.
Nyquist is by Uncle Mo out of a mare by Forestry (by Storm Cat). As noted in a previous post, lots of foals are out of mares by sons of Storm Cat, and their overall record is not particularly impressive.
The second dam of Nyquist is by Seeking the Gold, one of my favorite racehorses. Seeking the Gold is the one aspect of Nyquist’s pedigree that I like the best.
I have some statistics on sires of second dams ready to go. Perhaps that will be my next post.
